In Old Aramaic the construct state is אשת (ʾšt), pointing towards the earlier realization of the first /t/ as a fricative /θ/. Moreover, the nasal found in other Semitic languages assimilated to the contiguous stop, creating a geminated consonant (nt > tt).",
